Rihanna and Chris Brown~Good Love Gone Bad?

•February 22, 2009 • 1 Comment

When Rihanna and Chris Brown is seen holding hands and locking lips last year, fans of both Rihanna and Chris screamed for joy. Talk about a perfect couple. Both are rising pop stars. Both are earning grands. Both are gaining popularity and fans. What could possibly go wrong? Well, let us take a step from then to 2 years later a.k.a. present.

Just a day before the Grammys, Chris Brown is seen walking into a police department, and news reported that Chris Brown has alledgedly assaulted a woman in his car. On that time, Rihanna is still not confirmed as the victim, so some assumed that she missed the Grammys to avoid paparazzi questions. Her grandmother also said that she’s fine. But the sad truth is revealed 2 days later: Rihanna is the victim; she is brutally assaulted; her face may need plastic surgery; etc. etc.

Admist all these, no one actually knows how Rihanna’s injuries look like. Even more puzzling is the fact that Rihanna is not taking any legal actions towards Chris Brown and is actually avoiding the news. Her family members told fans the same thing again and again. “She’s doing fine now. We thank you for your support”. So how does she actually look now? Everyone but the police knows nothing. The case would remain a secret until… On Thursday, 19th of February someone manage to get on hold the photo used by the police as proof of the assault. The photo is then circulated to TMZ, and this is how she look like.

Rihanna beaten

Are you sure you got the correct picture. YES, this is what that has happened to our dear Rihanna. As you can see, Rihanna is horribly beaten. Her eyes, her forehead, her lips and her cheek is beaten and there are bruises all over her. As a matter of fact, she looked as if she has just survived an onslaught. How can Chris Brown do such a thing to her? Let us have a short discussion now.

In 2007, when they are seen as a couple, fans yelled for joy. But at the same time, professionals said that their relationship won’t last long. There are actually a few reasons.

~Both of them are celebrities. Celebrity relationships have roughly 26% chance of lasting.

~Both are rising pop stars. When you’re in the same field and industry, there is bound to be some problems with your relationship. Not to mention that they’re both busy working on their respective albums and tours as they’re in theiw peak.

~Both are good-looking. In fact, reports said that Rihanna and Chris Brown quarelled this time because Rihanna is jealous about Chris Brown talking with artists such as Leona Lewis and Paris Hilton. OR, it may be the other way around, thanks to Rihanna’s recent work with T.I.

These 3 are the main reasons that lead to their tragic ending. So what actually happened? I will try to list down information I have gathered from news, websites and stuffes.

After the pre-Grammy party, Chris Brown and Rihanna got onto the same car. While in the car, Rihanna expresses her feeling about Chris’ close proximity with Leona Lewis and Paris Hilton recently, but Chris just dismisses it, saying that Rihanna maybe jealous. Mad, Rihanna shouted for the car to stop and they both started quarreling. After quarreling for a while, Rihanna was really mad so she stopped shouting, opened the windows and threw Chris’  car keys out. Chris Brown was mad too and he went out searching for his car keys. When he failed to locate his keys, he just came in to the car and choked Rihanna, saying “I’m gonna kill you”. After he released her from the choke, he assaulted her by slapping, punching and biting her. Rihanna passes out soon after that. When she came around, Chris was nowhere to be found and a few concerned polices asked her condition.

So here we go. A tale of how everything started on that fateful night. And now comes the HUGE question. Who’s fault is it actually? While newspaper and Rihanna fans put the blame on Chris Brown, there are some different point of views. Chris fans (the remaining ones) did not dismiss Chris’ wrong-doings but they also said that it is technically Rihanna who started the fight. She was the one who acted out of jealousy. But Rihanna fans then said, “Even if she started the fight and threw his keys out, does he have to assault her to that stage? Her face is 40% destroyed.”  And so the debate goes on. While both sides have their own points, ultimately, one have to take the blame for it. Chris or Rihanna? Time will tell. In the meantime, who’s side are you on?

Lyrics:

Remember those walls I built
Well baby they’re tumbling down
And they didn’t even put up a fight
They didn’t even make a sound
I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo
I got my angel now

It’s like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
It’s the risk that I’m takin’
I ain’t never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace
You’re everything I need and more
It’s written all over your face
Baby I can feel your halo
Pray it won’t fade away

I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
Woah…

Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You’re the only one that I want
Think I’m addicted to your light
I swore I’d never fall again
But this don’t even feel like falling
Gravity can’t forget
To pull me to the ground again

Feels like I’ve been awakened
Every rule I had you breakin’
The risk that I’m takin’
I’m never gonna shut you out

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace
You’re everything I need and more

I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo) halo
I can feel your halo (halo) halo
I can see your halo (halo)

Halooooo ouuuu
Halooooo ouuuu
Halooooo ouuuu
Ouuuuu ouuuuu ouuuuu

Everywhere I’m looking now
I’m surrounded by your embrace
Baby I can see your halo
You know you’re my saving grace
You’re everything I need and more

Beyonce had remarkable success from her first two singles, Single Ladies(Put A Ring On It) and If I Were A Boy. In her latest album, Beyonce releases two singles at a time, for example ‘If I Were A Boy’ from A-Side (I Am…) and Single Ladies(Put A Ring On It) from B-Side (Sasha Fierce). Recently, Beyonce released her second set comprising of Diva and Halo.

In case you haven’t check on the Billboards lately, Diva is currently peaking at #20 and Halo is peaking at #44. While Diva is currently in its ninth week, Halo has only spent four weeks in the charts and by the looks of it, this song is expected to be a huge hit.

Let’s face it. This song is one of the best tracks from I Am…Sasha Fierce. Although it recieves generally positive reviews, some such my friends disagrees, saying that the song pale in comparison to If I Were A Boy. Their reason? They said that the song’s tempo is too slow. Come on, every typical love song has a slow beat, and this one is no exception. So unless they can find any flaws, many would consider this song flawless.

We’ll move on to the review. While her other single Diva relies on its quirky lyrics and up-tempo tune, Halo shines in a class of its own with a beautiful tune and even better lyrics. All of the lyrics suggests that the persona was once in love, but the relationship failed. Now, she has a new interest and she really loves him. The guy is always there to protect and support her whenever she needs him. The persona says she will never be alone, because she will always feel the warmth of her boyfriend’s halo. In another perspective, this song can also mean that the persona met someone that guided her through her troubles and she now feel indebted to him.

This song is also special in the sense that the music video is the only one in the album shot in full color. This is a no-brainer, as it will be really dumb for them to create a black and white halo. The warmth and love of the Halo must be shown. There have been even comparison made between this song and Leona Lewis’ ‘Bleeding Love’. But certainly, the former already garnered commercial success, and it will be highly unlikely for Halo to achieve the level of success of Bleeding Love.

That’s all for this review. I really hope you will give this song a try. If you like If I Were A Boy or Bleeding Love, chances are you’ll also enjoy this song. Oh and sorry for the long absence from this blog. School was extremely hectic (as usual) and i just completed a few important projects and presentations. Another note, my exam is going to start soon, so I may not be online that often. But mark my word, updating the blog will be my top priority after studying if I manage to get online.

Notable Songs From Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts

•January 23, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Being a fan of the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series, one of the best RPG series out there, I am not the only one to say that Square Enix (the company that created these games) produced wonderful and memorable music. Suprisingly, although games are supposed to charm players with their wonderful gameplay and graphics, Square Enix never fails to attract attention with their tracks. Here are some music which I found very ear-pleasing.

#10~J-E-N-O-V-A (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children)

While this song doesn’t have any vocals at all, it is still a nice song to listen to, as the instruments behind and the computer effects really make it a nice song to listen to while relaxing.

#9~To Zanarkand (Final Fantasy X)

A song played in the beginning of Final Fantasy X, this song is another song to be played during relaxation. It’s melancholic nature and the sad tone behind the song is actually a song about 2 lovers in-game. Definitely a must-hear.

#8~Eyes On Me (Final Fantasy VIII)

This song serves as the theme song for Final Fantasy VIII. A good enough ballad by anyone, it’s even better performed by Hong Kong singer Faye Wong. At the end, this song won numerous awards, including firsts for video games.

 #7~Real Emotion (Final Fantasy X-2)

There’s 2 version to this song, Japanese and English. Personally, I prefer the latter, which is quite strange when it comes to songs sung by Japanese singers. But don’t underestimate Koda Kumi. She has sang for quite a number of games and animes, and is no newcomer when it comes to fast-tempo hits like this song. Serves as a B-Side for 1000 Words, also in the list.

#6~Tatakau Mono Tachi (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children)

Considered one of the FF7 Sountrack’s gem, this is a piano song played during the fight between Tifa and Loz. Ever since it was played in the original game I have loved it, but with the release of FF7 Advent Children, I adore it even more. Bet you can’ t play this on your piano.

#5-Hikari /Simple And Clean (Kingdom Hearts)

The opening song to Kingdom Hearts, this is the infamous song that broke records in Japan the year it was released. Sung by queen of J-Pop Utada Hikaru, it is #1 on the Oricon charts (The Japanese equivalent of Billboard) for 3 weeks, not to mention that over 500 thousand copies have been sold. There is an English version called Simple And Clean, which has the same melody but different lyrical content.

 #4~The 13th Reflection a.k.a. Marluxia’s Theme (Kingdom Hearts 2:Final Mix)

The only non-vocal song from Kingdom Hearts to deserve a spot in my list. When KH2:Final Mix was released, not only is the gameplay enchanced, but there’s loads of worthy songs. The 13th Reflection is a melody that was just so good, I seriously can’t think of any words to describe it. Be sure to listen to it.

#3~1000 Words (Final Fantasy X-2)

Released as the A-side of Real Emotion, this song is definitely one of the best songs from a video game. Koda Kumi did a great job in this song, fueling it with emotion and sadness. Don’t be suprised if you happen to watch this song’s scene in the game and weep with sadness. Available in both English and Japanese, but I prefer the English version. Can’t really describe this song in 1000 words.

#2~Passion/Sanctuary (Kingdom Hearts 2)

Yet another song from Utada Hikaru, this time better. Serving as the theme song for Kingdom Hearts 2, this song can be heard throughout the game, with clever use of reversed lyrics. As opposed to the 2 previous bilingual songs, Passion is better than Sanctuary. Listen to it and be amazed.

#1~ One-Winged Angel (Final Fantasy VII)

Look what we have. I’m sure Final Fantasy fans reading this post will be wondering where is this song. Of course, the song regarded as many as ‘The Grandfather Of FF Songs’ deserves the top spot. Fulled of vengence, FF’s biggest baddie has a cool song as well. The original song has it’s lyrics in Latin, but another version in Advent Children has a new set of lyrics in Japanese.

That’s all for this long and tedious post. Keep visiting as I will add links to the songs after I’m back from tuition. In the meantime, just enjoy my reviews =)

Rihanna’s Concert in Malaysia-’Am I too sexy?’

•January 10, 2009 • 1 Comment

On January 8th 2009, The Star announced that Rihanna will be coming to Bukit Jalil on the 13th of Febrauary as part of her ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ tour. While Rihanna fans alike were screaming aloud and jumping in joy, unknown to them chaos is again shrouding her concert. As you know, Malaysia had trouble from conservative Muslim Malaysians during previous concerts.

Let us take a look at the previous concerts. Famous dance group Pussycat Dolls’ organisers for their 2006 concert got fined $3000 for not following Malaysia’s rules. Well, this explain why they can hardly dance during their appearance in MTV Asia’s awards in Genting last year. Come on, they’re wrapped so tight they can hardly dance. Which is a sad thing cos they may never come to Malaysia for a concert again. I think they’ll rather go to some countries where the citizens actually appreciate them in the country and not fine them for nonsensical reasons.

Next, we have Gwen Stefani performing in August 2007. This time, 10,000-member National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students accused her of promoting promiscuit, skimpy outfits, and funnily, “CORRUPTING” Islamic Youth’s mind. The concert was a success, and she followed the rules, wearing outfits that barely shows any skin. However, some of them still complained that she showed some parts of her hand. According to the Sharia Laws, any female performer must be covered from the chest to her knee, not to mention she can’t jump on the stage. LOL. Get a life, would ya? If u think Western performers are corrupting youth’s minds, then stop Mat Rempits on the road before saying stuffes and point fingers at performers. Anyways, Stefani slammed them “I’ve been in the music industry for 20 years and this is the first time that I’m facing opposition from people who have misunderstood me”.

Most recently is Avril Lavinge’s concert in August 2008. Again, she faced protests that she’ll corrupt minds with her ’sexy image’. Well well, Avril blasted them by saying “They tend to, you know, sometimes not want Western artists in their country. I respect that, but at the same time, you know, there’s people that listen to music there and want to see their idols and stuff, so it’s all good.” Good job, and her concert is also a complete success. That’s three controversies, and there’s bound to be one come Rihanna’s tour.

In case you don’t know, Rihanna is currently one of the most famous female pop singer around the world, and her fanbase in Malaysia is more than that of Gewn Stefani and Avril Lavinge combined. So before they start another protest, please think rationally. Rihanna’s concert tickets are selling very fast, and based on the previous three concerts, I don’t think their protests will do much in stopping the concert. So stop embarassing yourself on TV, stop handing out flyers outside the stadium, cos people will just throw them is dustbin and this in turn will kill trees and stop putting Malaysia in American performer’s list as the ‘WORST COUNTRY TO HAVE YOUR CONCERT”. Early grats to Rihanna for her going-to-be successful concert and to my friends, this is a concert you’ll not regret going to. Although I can’t attend the concert, but I will always support Rihanna no matter what.

Rihanna fan and proud of it,

Patrick

Oh baby, baby, if you seek Amy tonight (Oh!)
Oh baby, baby, we’ll do whatever you’ll like
Oh baby, baby, baby
Oh baby, baby, baby…

Say what you want about me (Say what you want about me!)
But all of the boys and all of the girls
Are begging to if you seek Amy (If you seek Amy..)

Love me, hate me
But can’t you see what I see? (Can’t you see what I see?)
All of the boys and all of the girls
Are begging to if you seek Amy (If you seek Amy)

Love me, hate me
Say what you want about me (Yeaaaah)
(La, la, la, la-la, la, la, la) (Yeah)

Love me, hate me
But can’t you see what I see?
All of the boys and all of the girls
Are begging to if you seek Amy (If you seek Amy)

(Love me, hate me) Ohhhh, say what you want about me
Ohhhh, but can’t you see what I see?
(Love me, hate me) Yeahh, say what you want about me

All of the boys and all of the girls
Are begging to if you seek Amy (If you seek Amy..)

Britney certatinly made a stunning comeback with her new album Circus, spawning 2 hit singles. Her first single, Womanizer is currently holding the record of making the biggest jump to #1 in Billboard’s history, from #94 to #1. Womanizer is also her second #1 single, her first being her debut single. Then, we have Circus, Britney’s first Top 10 debut in the charts, debuting at #3 with high digital sales. Other than this 2 singles, she has numerous potential charting singles in the album.

Despite the many songs in the album, one that really caught my attention is the weird-sounding “If U Seek Amy”. What kind of name is that? Well, before I go in depth with the lyrics and spoil the fun, let me hint you that the title of the song sounds like a very famous vulgar phrase commonly used this day? No idea? To really get an idea of what I’m saying, go listen to the song on Youtube first before reading the rest.

<HAVE U LISTENED? IF YES, PROCEED BELOW>

<WARNING!! OBSCENITIES AHEAD>

Figured it out yet? The answer will most probably be no and I guarantee you’ll be scratching your head figuring what she’s trying to sing in the song. In case you really paid attention in the chorus, YES, she’s saying F-U-C-K-ME!!! What nonsence is this? Are you even sure of that?

This song has already raised several controverises, as If-U-Seek-A-my is a phonetic for F-u-c-k-me. Britney herself have yet to comment on the song, thus leaving us to conclude that we’re quite right. Other than that, there’s no other meaning in the song. Her use of Amy in the song is simply as a pun to fully complete the phrase. And from what other critics observed, Amy is the song describes $3x. The chorus itself is quite straight-forward.

All the boys and all the girls are begging to if u seek amy

Well, what does that sound to you? Pretty darn good for a Britney single, if she’s ever going to release it. It’s the first time Britney actually has a song where we have too figure out her lyrics, scratching our head. Not bad, Britney.\

UPDATE: The song’s confirmed as Britney’s 3rd single.

PMR Results-To Anticipate or To Fear?

•December 29, 2008 • 3 Comments

Wow, just plain wow. It all seems so clear, as if we just took our last paper yesterday noon. But look where are we now, it’s 30th December already. Our results are gonna be out tomorrow at 10am. While some of them are really anticipating it (since they’re 99% sure they’ll get full A’s), some of us are really not ready for the outcome. What happens if we failed to get full A’s? Well, one of my family members told me, “It’s too late to change the results. You already tried your best, so whatever the outcome is, just accept fate.”

Actually, it is really a big fat lie for any Form 3’s out there to tell you they aren’t anxious about their results. A few of my seniors hardly get some sleep the night before the results. It’s just how anxious they are. In case you INSIST that you’re not worried about your results, I have kindly attached a list of symptoms of those who’re anxious.

Losing appetite and can’t seem to eat well. Let’s just say you always eat 5 bowls of rice, and you ate 4 this morning. That’s a symptom.

Feeling depressed and lost. This is a common feeling, and since most of you have this durirng the Trials, what about now? That’s a symptom.

Bragging about your results in front of particularly everyone. Here’s a simple hypothesis. The more anxious you are, the more you wish for everyone to feel the same as you. That’s a symptom.

During games, stop everyone from mentioning about the results and says ‘Don’t TALK about PMR here.”  That’s a symptom.

Calling or SMSing almost everyone in your contacts and persuading them to chat with you. That’s a symptom.

Praying unusually(double ot triple) lot for the past few days even if your mom doesn’t force you too. That’s a symptom.

Fever, nausea, headache, short-of-breath, low appetite, etc. That’s a sypmtom.

So do you think you’re still not anxious? If yes, I TOLD YOU SO. If no, then I seriously doubt you care about your academics. The bottom line is, no one will laugh at you if you’re anxious. They won’t call you a ‘kiasu’ or other funny names. It’s normal to feel anxious for your results. It seems I ran out of idea on what to write, so that’s the end of this rather short post. Enjoy it and to those recieving your results tomorrow, Best Of Luck to you.
